Presentation Day of the PLANFORLAB Operative Group

The Interregional Operational Group PLANFORLAB presents its project to increase resilience and production in coniferous forests.

Santiago de Compostela, January 31, 2025 – The Interregional Operational Group PLANFORLAB will organize a presentation event next Thursday, February 6, at 10:15 AM, to introduce the innovation project “Network of laboratory forests with improved plants to increase resilience and production in coniferous forests”. This initiative aims to improve the condition of coniferous forests by applying advances in the development of genetic material and adaptive silviculture, using the innovative concept of laboratory forest as a means.

The PLANFORLAB project focuses on developing new improved plants of the species Pinus pinaster, Pinus radiata, and Pinus sylvestris, in order to increase the resilience of forests against pathologies such as pine wilt nematode, fusarium, and red and brown band diseases, as well as the effects of climate change. Additionally, it seeks to improve wood quality, fostering the economic sustainability of foresters and promoting sustainable forest management.

During the event, the project’s objectives, ongoing activities, and progress will be presented. Attendees will also learn about the sustainable innovation actions that PLANFORLAB will implement in the forestry sector to improve wood quality.

The event will feature interventions from representatives of some of the entities participating in the PLANFORLAB Operational Group, who will share their vision and the key role they play in the project. Among the speakers will be the Galician Forest Association (AFG), the LOURIZÁN Forest Research Center, Empresa de Transformación Agraria S.A., S.M.E., M.P. (TRAGSA), and the Galician University-Business Foundation (FEUGA). However, the PLANFORLAB Operational Group is not limited to these entities, as the following members are also part of the consortium: Federation of Forest Associations of Castile and León (FAFCYLE), Confederation of Foresters of the Basque Country (CFPV), Confederation of Spanish Foresters’ Organizations (COSE), NEIKER Technology Center, University of Valladolid Foundation (UVa), and the Forestry Research Institute of INIA-CSIC.
